Overview
In British Columbia, wild places still lead the way. This 7 day overland coastal safari travels from Vancouver into coastal rainforests, islands, and remote marine parks where whales and bears thrive. Days are spent hiking, exploring by boat, and quietly observing wildlife in its natural habitat, before settling into thoughtfully prepared safari-style camps. It’s an expedition that balances rugged terrain with refined camp comforts, where the journey and the wildlife encountered along the way matters as much as the destination. Every journey is completely bespoke. We work closely with you to design your trip, from the route and wildlife focus to pacing and style. All trips are private, ensuring you and your group experience the wild coast on your own terms, with an expert guide to tailor every detail to your interests.

NOMADICJOURNEYSWILDLIFESAFARI
British Columbia’s coastline offers an extraordinary range of wildlife-rich seascapes that often shape our custom itineraries, from the wild west coast of the Tofino and Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Region, with its dense temperate rainforest, rugged shoreline, and abundant black bears, sea otters, and migrating grey whales, to the intricate waterways of Campbell River and the Discovery Islands Archipelago, where sheltered channels meet steep coastal mountains and support thriving populations of orcas, humpback whales, sea lions, bald eagles, and seasonal grizzly bears along the mainland inlets. Farther north, Telegraph Cove and the Broughton Archipelago showcase a maze of pristine islands and passages renowned for some of the best orca viewing in the world, alongside humpbacks, dolphins, sea lions, and coastal black bears. Each of these regions reveals a distinct side of Vancouver Island’s marine wilderness, and depending on the area and experience we design together, trips can range from relaxed wildlife safaris to more adventurous, multi-day explorations in remote coastal settings.

*Itinerary is subject to change due to weather conditions, wildlife activity or the interest of the group.

DAY 1 - ARRIVAL
Begin the expedition in Vancouver and travel west toward Vancouver Island, crossing the Salish Sea by ferry before continuing overland through forested mountain passes and river valleys. Along the way, watch for wildlife and shifting ecosystems as the landscape transitions from urban coast to remote wilderness. Arrive near Clayoquot Sound in the evening and settle into your first safari-style camp.

DAY 2 - WILDLIFE OF CLAYOQUOT SOUND
Spend the day exploring the Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve by private boat charter, with timing shaped by tides and wildlife activity. Focus on coastal black bears, grey whales, sea otters, and marine birdlife. If conditions allow, land for beach exploration and a guided rainforest walk among ancient cedars and towering spruce. Return to camp in the evening.

DAY 3 - PACIFIC RIM NATIONAL PARK RESERVE
Begin the day with optional morning yoga before setting out on a guided hike along the shores of Pacific Rim. Learn about coastal ecology, birdlife, and Indigenous and settler history while moving through one of Canada’s most iconic landscapes. The afternoon is unhurried, allowing time to absorb the rhythm of the coast before returning to camp.

DAY 4 - ACROSS THE ISLAND
Break camp in Tofino and travel north, crossing Vancouver Island’s diverse interior landscapes toward the sheltered waters of the Discovery Islands. Set up camp on Quadra Island, surrounded by quiet bays and forested shorelines, and enjoy a relaxed evening in camp.

DAY 5 - WILDLIFE OF THE DISCOVERY ISLANDS
Spend a full day on the water exploring deep inlets and coastal fjords in search of grizzly bears, along with seals, eagles, and other marine wildlife. Spring and fall routes vary depending on bear activity and conditions, ensuring the best possible viewing opportunities while maintaining ethical wildlife practices. Return to camp in the evening.

DAY 6 - WILDLIFE OF THE BROUGHTONS
Continue north toward Telegraph Cove, entering the rich feeding grounds of the Broughton Archipelago Marine Park, one of the world’s premier locations for observing orcas and humpback whales. Spend the afternoon exploring by boat through island-studded channels and open passages where whales are frequently encountered, alongside porpoises, seals, and abundant seabird life.

DAY 7 - FAREWELL
Enjoy a slow final morning with a relaxed coastal brunch and a gentle shoreline walk, taking in the sights and sounds of the Broughton Archipelago one last time. This unhurried farewell offers time to reflect on the journey before traveling overland to Port Hardy, where the expedition concludes or guests continue onward.
